The SSC CGL 2014 Tier 1 exam was held successfully on October 19 with experts suggesting moderate level of difficulty of the exam despite it being tougher than that of the last years.

“The difficulty level was not much high. It can be termed as moderate. Though, the paper was tougher than its last years’ version,” says Ms. Neetu Singh, director at Paramount Coaching Centre.
She, however, said that the questions were a bit lengthy this time. “Quantitative Aptitude section was a bit lengthy and tougher than that in 2013. However, General Awareness section, surprisingly, contributed some Biotech level questions and Economics questions were tougher than expectation. As many as 22 questions were from Science stream,” she said.
Mr. Javed R Siddique, director at BSC Academy said that Quantitative section was slightly difficult this time with Trigonometry and Geometry dominating other sections. “Quantitative Aptitude section was tough with 7 questions from Trigonometry and 8 from Geometry. English Comprehension section was balanced. General Awareness section was contributed majorly by traditional Social Science background. If a candidate has answered 110 questions rightly, can easily crack it,” he says.
Experts also say the difficulty level this year was according to the level of exam, which is supposed to fill up vacancies in government offices of ministry level, but there were a few exceptions.

General Intelligence & Reasoning
Difficulty level: Easy to Moderate
Bringing no surprises for the candidates, General Intelligence & Reasoning section remained in easy to moderate zone, in line with its difficulty level in last two years. Candidates with clear concepts and proper time management could qualify in this section at ease. A candidate Madhuri says “I found this section quite easy to do with easy to moderate difficulty level questions.”
General Awareness
Difficulty level: Moderate to Tough
SSC brought a few surprises for the candidates, making General Awareness section somehow tougher for them this year. Especially, a few questions coming from Science stream seemed to be Graduate level, instead of being 10th level, which was expected from this paper going by difficulty level in this section in a few previous year papers. Sofia Simpson, candidate, says, “most of the questions in this section were from Science stream. Difficulty level of this section was a little tough.”
Quantitative Aptitude
Difficulty level: Moderate to Tough
Difficulty level in Quantitative Aptitude section was moderate to tough. While, some candidates found this section moderate, for others this section was tough. As Sachin Parmar, candidate, says, “difficulty level in this section was moderate to tough. However, the most of the question were doable with average above aptitude level.”
English Comprehension
Difficulty level: Easy to Moderate
For candidates with above average grip and understanding of English language, English Comprehension section remained between easy to tough. Time was enough for attempting all the questions. A candidate Amit says, “difficulty level in this section was a little tougher in Passage Compression and Grammar both in comparison with last year paper.”
SSC CGL 2014 Exam is being conducted to fill up around 10,000 vacancies in the central Government’s different categories of posts. SSC CGL 2014 is conducted in three stages – Tier I – Written Examination (Objective-Type), Tier II – Written Examination (Objective Multiple Choice Type) and Tier III – Personality Test cum Interview/Computer Proficiency Test/Skill Test.
Staff Selection Commission had, earlier, announced on January 18, 2014, to conduct SSC CGL 2014 Exam Tier I on April 27 and May 4. However, the exam was later postponed to an undisclosed date due to General Elections. Finally, the exam is being conducted by Staff Selection Commission.
